WHERE DID IT ALL START?

Edward W. Bullard, a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley. Bullard served in the U.S. Army in France during WWI. Once home, he returned to work at the E.D. Bullard Co. in San Francisco, founded in 1898 by his father, Edward Dickinson Bullard, to sell carbide lamps and mining equipment to gold and copper miners.

 
Recognizing the need for increased protection in the mines, Bullard designed a hard hat inspired by the steel dough-boy helmet he wore as a soldier.
 
 
HISTORY OF THE HARD HAT
In 1919, E.W. Bullard pieced together what is now known as the hard hat. After various revisions, Bullard patented his design in 1929. It's credited with saving lives on job sites while also becoming a symbol of our Nations working-class.
